VO Pro Tip: How to get the most out of the projects you book

Voice-Over Pro Tip

Getting the Most from your Bookings

Hey Reader,

Booking work is obviously the point of doing VO, but besides the obvious financial aspects, there are a couple other things you can do to get the most from every job you book.

  1. Firstly, it's a connection to a new client or a further establishment of a connection to an existing one. Nurture that relationship by being great to work with and making their job easy so that they keep coming back. It's an opportunity to be quick and communicative and give great customer service.
  2. If it is a booking for a notable client or company, then make sure you don’t forget to add that to your credits where ever you display them, like your personal website or P2P Profiles.
  3. Whether it is a project for a big company or not, try to find or get a copy of the final project when it is released so you can add that to your demos, again on your own site, social channels, or P2P's or anywhere else. It doesn't matter if it's a big recognizable brand or not - if it is a great showcase of your VO ability, then showcase it!
  4. Getting a copy of recent work is also a great "excuse" to touch base with clients/leads in a marketing email, so use that as a reason to reach out in an upcoming marketing campaign. It shows off your work, and also the fact that you are working, (and obviously puts you/keeps you on their radar).

Make sure you do these few extra things so that you don't just get money out of your bookings, but other assets that will further your VO career!

Voice-Over Pro Tip What's the "Why?" Hey Reader, Ever feel like you're just reading the words on the page? Sometimes, even with perfect technique, a performance can fall a little flat if it's missing a crucial element: the "why." What do I mean by the "why"? It's the underlying motivation, intention, and emotional core driving the lines you're speaking. It's the answer to the question, "Why is this character/narrator saying this, at this moment, in this way?" Digging into the "why" can...

Voice-Over Pro Tip Speed Edit! Hey Reader, It should be a goal to become a very efficient audio editor, if you are not already. This should include a plugin chain that is dialed in specifically for your...
