VO Pro Tip: Don't Lean on Post-Production

Don't Lean on Post-Production

Hey Reader,

With all the amazing editing tools we have at our disposal these days, it can become really easy to use them as a crutch.

You might not worry about pacing because you'll just adjust it when you edit. You might not worry about those clicks and pops because you'll just take them out in post. You might not care that you left the window open outside your booth and there's some ambient noise, you'll just de-noise after recording.

While these tools can and certainly should be used in a lot of situations, don't fall into the habit of making them an essential part of your recording process. It will always give you the best result to get things right at the source - that means a great performance, with minimal tech problems like noise, clicks, etc...

You accomplish this firstly by honing your skills as a talent, and also by not being lazy about setting up your space, your mic technique, staying hydrated, etc... Going this route over just hastily recording and "fixing in the mix" won't just save you a ton of time during editing, it'll also yield better overall results.

Voice-Over Pro Tip What's the "Why?" Hey Reader, Ever feel like you're just reading the words on the page? Sometimes, even with perfect technique, a performance can fall a little flat if it's missing a crucial element: the "why." What do I mean by the "why"?
